Wushanding Mud Volcano Landscape Nature Reserve

This spot is the most concentrated area for mud gushes from the volcanic craters in Taiwan; with the greatest amount of mud awl found here. In recent years, as of its spectacular view, the landscape of volcano has been exposed to wreckage. To protect this specific scenery, the Council of Agriculture has, according to the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act in March 1992 officiated the area as the “Wushanding Mud Volcano Nature Reserve”.

The mud volcano ejects exists because mud and gas will gush out concurrently simultaneously, after cooling-off, the awl will be formed, much like a small hillock, and there is concave hole on top of it. Mud gas will continue to gush out from the hole. Since the gas is flammable, it would burn on its own.
The largest mud gusher in the area measures around 3.5 m tall with 50℃ at its slopes, a typical mud awl. Eruption occurs once every few seconds and thick mud will slide down the awl, forming tongue-shaped mud-flow with diameter measuring up to 70 m.

Agongdian Reservoir or Ta-di Mountain Natural Park

This is an ideal place in Yanchao for a leisure trip round the lake.

Agongdian means Grandfather’s shop. The reservoir is on the upper part of Agongdian River in Kaohsiung City. It is the first reservoir completed after Taiwan restoration in 1954. The two thousand- meter long reservoir is the longest one in Taiwan and Asia.

Agongdian Reservoir is appointed with flood prevention, irrigation and water supplies capability. The reservoir boasts mesmerizing natural surroundings. However, with a location near military base and in the remote countryside, it is relatively unknown to most people. Currently, the reservoir is open to public. However, there are no direct express buses to this part of the countryside. Visitors have to go on their own motorcycles or hike from Yanchao on foot.

Qiaotou Ten-Drum Cultural Village

Kaohsiung Sugar Refinery was originally known as “Kio-a-thau Sugar Refinery.” It was the first modernized mechanical sugar refinery of Taiwan and was founded 112 years ago. Its sugar factory, Japanese-style wooden buildings, bunker, red brick water tower and other heritage buildings were all well-preserved.

The office and club building inherited from the Japanese Colonial Era were built by Japanese people by imitating the colonial buildings of the Dutch in Southeast Asia. Besides leveling up its foundation, the corridors and consecutive arches all imitated European architecture style.

Qiaotou Sugar Refinery highly stresses the preservation and usage of the sugar industry cultural heritages and often hold cultural events in collaboration with Kaohsiung City Government and local societies in the factory.

Light Rail Transit Totoro Tunnel
A section of the Kaohsiung Light Rail, dubbed the "Totoro Tunnel" by fans due to its resemblance to a set of a Japanese animation movie, has become extremely popular among locals.

Kaohsiung Music Center

In 2009, the Executive Yuan recognized the need for a “Kaohsiung Music Center.” The Ministry of Culture commissioned the Kaohsiung City Government for its planning, design and construction. “Kaohsiung Music Center”is operated as a new form of ad-ministrative institution. The KMC is a landmark for pop music performances in Southern Taiwan that nurtures domestic pop music talents and supports networking within the industry. In addition to music performances, the KMC architecture is integrated into the surrounding harbor scenery to create a new tourist attraction.

Cijin Island

As famous as its counterpart in Siziwan, the Cijin Beach invariably attracts many swimmers who fall over each other to register when it opens. The facilities within the Bathing Area are quite diverse: there are different leisure areas, including a scenic trail with sea views and a natural ecological area, as well as a cross-country area, so even when the bathing Area is closed, travelers can still participate in other leisure activities. The Sea Bathing Area thoughtfully provides comprehensive washing facilities, and there are many cute statues of sea animals on the grass, large and small, of which the best-loved is the 2-story red crab.

Cijin Tunnel Of Stars

The Cijin Star Tunnel, which was excavated in the Japanese Colonial Era and passes through Cihou Mountain, was originally a military tunnel, but a wooden plank path has now been built in the tunnel, and it has been decorated with glow-in-the-dark paintings of 12 constellations and materials such as driftwood and luminous stones; accompanied by the cool sea breeze which passes through the cave, they together inspire a feeling of romance at being beneath the stars. Upon leaving the tunnel, you will see Cijin sound beneath Cihou Mountain, the ocean spray beating on the towering, precipitous green lime walls, creating a grand, primeval ocean scene.

The British Consulate at  Takow

The British Consulate at Takao is a building in the British style which was constructed in 1879, and is situated beside Shaochuantou Wharf, with a mountain behind and the sea in front. It is the oldest extant modern Western building in Taiwan, and was also the first consulate the British government built in Taiwan. The consul's residence and consulate have been preserved in their entirety, as well as an old hiking trail which leads up the mountain. Here, where the sea and mountain meet, you can feast your eyes on Kaohsiung City, Cijin (Qijin) Fishing port and the fine scenery of Siziwan (The Sizih Bay).

National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts

The Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts was originally a Neiweipi wetland filled with irrigation ponds (Pitang in Chinese). After southern Taiwan's first public fine art museum was founded in 1994, it became southern Taiwan's most important modern art and culture hub. The “Kids' Art Museum”, which emphasized child art education and active learning, was opened in 2005. It provides children with a place for more discovery, exploration and in which to experience art, while simultaneously developing their artistic potential through interactive games.
A public art park was planned outside, with 40 pieces of all kinds of sculpture and installation art scattered amidst the grass, trees and lake, displaying diverse visual effects and also developing the natural environment into part of the art museum. It is a cultural gathering-place which unites the environment, art and leisure.

Besides, it can bring calmness and peace to our minds, moderate conflicts, bring our life back to nature, beautify the earth, as well as purify the human soul.

In our previous Catalog No. 19 issued in 2010, we have introduced more than 30 new vegetable varieties, hoping to increase the grower’s profit and the customer’s wellbeing. Now, in celebration of the about-to-be-completed Known-You New Building Complex and embracing the new Known-You era, our managerial and R&D teams have selected from “the best of our outstanding collections” and combined them with some other excellent varieties to publish this special edition catalog. Some of the new vegetable varieties include: the very unique and special sweet-&-sour tasting melons “Bonny” and “Prity”, the innovative and beautiful pink-fleshed watermelons “Fain Beauty” and “Dionysos”, the crisp and delicious yellow-fleshed seedless watermelon, and the orangecolored balsam pear. National Pingtung University of Science and Technology 4-H

NPUST was established as the “Kaohsiung State Pingtung Extension School of Agriculture” in the 13th year of the Taishō period during the Japanese Colonial Era (1924). In 1954, after the nationalists (KMT) had taken over the rule of Taiwan from the Japanese, the school was renamed as the Taiwan Provincial Institute of Agriculture. At that time, it was among the best of Taiwan’s vocational schools, training countless elites and becoming a foundation for Taiwan’s economic boom.

In 1991, the school reorganized to become a vocational college and, together with the National Taiwan Institute of Technology, was among the top two technical institutions of higher learning in the country. In 1997 the vocational college was upgraded to a university of science and technology, and occupied a leading position among vocational education institutions in Taiwan.

In 1990, the school campus was relocated to a vast 298 hectare property in Neipu Township next to Dawu Mountain and the Donggang
River. Ranked top in the nation, the campus has earned NPUST the reputation of “National Park University” and provides an excellent place for students to cultivate their skills and personal qualities while
strengthening their bodies and minds—it is also an ideal place for faculty members to carry out their research and educational activities.
